UAPCNL advises the US government on the safety of nuclear shipping

UAP Coalition Netherlands (UAPCNL) has official feedback submitted to the US Maritime Administration (MARAD) regarding the deployment of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) in shipping. As an independent civil society organization, we emphasize that the transition to nuclear propulsion completely changes maritime safety. Because these mobile reactors operate in international waters and rely on their own systems, modern safety policy must also take into account unconventional risks at sea and in the air. Historical and current data show a clear link between nuclear installations and the presence of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, which can cause dangerous electronic interference.

To protect international shipping and supply chains, UAPCNL recommends mandating 'Security-by-Design'. This means that advanced sensors for radar, optical systems, and infrared are built directly into the ship design for continuous 360-degree surveillance. Additionally, we advocate for broad risk analyses that look beyond standard accidents, and for the establishment of clear, international reporting protocols in cooperation with agencies such as the US Coast Guard, the IMO, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to UAPCNL, an open, scientific approach without professional stigma is necessary to maintain the confidence of the public, investors, and insurers in this innovative maritime energy.
