The building of the French National Assembly in Paris, location of the public UAP conference on June 29, 2026.

On June 29, 2026, a took place in the French National Assembly conference place over Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). The initiative for this meeting, which was open to the public, lay with the parliamentarians. Arnaud Saint-Martin (LFI) and Pierre Henriet (Horizons). Interest was high; the 250 available places were fully occupied by experts and interested parties.

Focus on rationality and data

Under the title “Research into UAP, beyond fantasies” The organizers determined that a strictly rational approach is necessary. The explicit goal was to strip the subject of speculation and conspiracy thinking.

During the conference, various relevant perspectives were highlighted:

  • Data and analysis: Representatives of GEIPAN (the official French government agency for UAP research) presented their methodology. They emphasized that although the vast majority of the observations are explainable, a small percentage (3%) remains unexplained and requires further analysis.
  • Expertise: Insight was provided into the functioning of the expert group. Sigma2, who performs technical analyses on observations.
  • Societal context: Sociologists discussed the need to reduce the stigma surrounding UAP sightings to facilitate the reporting of incidents, particularly from the aviation sector.

The conclusion of the experts and parliamentarians present was unequivocal: UAP deserves a thorough, multidisciplinary scientific approach. This conference in the French Parliament marks a step towards further political and scientific legitimation of the subject in Europe.

The relevance for the Netherlands

UAP Coalition Netherlands is closely following these European developments and sees the French example as a model for the Dutch context.

Currently, the Netherlands lacks a centralized government policy or an official reporting point for UAP observations. Data collection here rests primarily with civil society organizations. UAP Coalition Netherlands therefore advocates for the following steps in Dutch policy-making:

  1. National hotline: Establishing an official government body where observations are collected and analyzed in a standardized manner.
  2. Safety in aviation: Implementing measures to ensure safety in Dutch airspace, taking into account UAP as a factor in aviation safety.
  3. Scientific research: Stimulating independent, multidisciplinary scientific research into the phenomenon, supported by adequate funding.

UAP Coalition Netherlands calls on Dutch parliamentarians to take note of these developments and to take similar steps towards a transparent and fact-based investigation structure for the Netherlands and the European Union.
