{"id":5076,"date":"2025-09-10T10:08:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T10:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uapcoalitienederland.nl\/?p=5076"},"modified":"2026-01-30T11:19:55","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T11:19:55","slug":"era-act-feedback-uap-stigma-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uapcoalitienederland.nl\/en\/era-act-feedback-uap-stigma-wetenschap\/","title":{"rendered":"UAPCNL advises EU on the ERA Act: Stigma as a barrier to science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>September 10, 2025<\/strong> has UAP Coalition Netherlands <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/law\/better-regulation\/have-your-say\/initiatives\/14608-European-Research-Area-Act\/F3714975_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">feedback<\/a> submitted to the European Commission for the <strong>European Research Area (ERA) Act<\/strong>. This legislative initiative should ensure a resilient and inclusive European Research Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our contribution focuses on a fundamental problem: <strong>stigma as a systemic barrier<\/strong>. This stigma discourages researchers in fields like UAP from applying for funding and hinders access to essential research infrastructures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our feedback, supported by <strong>24 scientists, researchers and organizations<\/strong>, contains the following concrete proposals to the European Commission:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Promoting curiosity:<\/strong> Encouraging open and unbiased research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Anti-stigma guidelines:<\/strong> Development of frameworks for assessors and funders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Support for exploratory research:<\/strong> Creating space for controversial or marginalized fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inclusive networks:<\/strong> Stimulating interdisciplinary collaboration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fair access:<\/strong> Ensuring access to infrastructures, regardless of the research domain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We call on the EU institutions to explicitly address stigma in the ERA Act, so that Europe remains a leader in groundbreaking innovation and scientific advancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The number of signatories has now grown to 36 (reference date January 30, 2026)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Op 10 september 2025 heeft UAP Coalitie Nederland feedback ingediend bij de Europese Commissie voor de European Research Area (ERA) Act.
